GiveBIG in the Fight Against Alzheimer’s

givebig-2015-homepage-banner3May 5th is the Seattle Foundation’s Day to GiveBIG in support of local nonprofit organizations.

With your donation, families facing Alzheimer’s disease, like Sam and Jean White, will have access to one-on-one care and support.

Sam cares for his wife Jean who has early onset Alzheimer’s disease. After Jean’s diagnosis, Sam realized he needed more education and tools to care for her. A friend told Sam about the Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline that he could call any time of day or night to find help.

When he called the 24/7 Helpline, Sam was able to share his concerns about his wife and how their relationship had changed after her diagnosis with a Helpline Consultant. In discussing his concerns Sam received emotional support, education and referrals to additional programs offered by the Alzheimer’s Association.

Care Consultation

From his first call, Sam was connected to one of the Association’s Care Consultants in the Seattle area who came to his home to help him address immediate needs and plan for the future. During his in-home visit Sam was able to plan how he would care for Jean as her symptoms progressed and he continued to work.

Support Group

His Care Consultant helped Sam create a care plan that would allow Jean to stay in their home as long as possible, give Sam breaks from caregiving through local respite programs, and maintain their network of support. He also joined a community of caregivers who share common experiences through a Support Group.

Sam continues to have personalized support from his Care Consultant, caregiver community and personal network of family and friends. Because he was able to call the 24/7 Helpline, Sam can balance his career with caring for Jean and know they have a secure plan for their family’s future.

Help us reach more people like Sam and Jean on May 5th and GiveBIG to the Alzheimer’s Association. A $100 donation will connect three people like Sam to our 24/7 Helpline. Donations made to the Alzheimer’s Association on May 5th via the GiveBIG website will be stretched through a matching fund provided by generous GiveBIG sponsors.
