Freedom

By Lon Cole

Where I go I need to be
Longing for truth to set me free
I strive for freedom in all I do
I hope that my strength will get me through
But if I become weak in any way
May someone lift me up is all I can pray
I’m willing to die for the country I love
I know God will watch over me from above
Is there a lesson I need to learn
I seek your trust which I am willing to earn
Together we show that freedom will reign
As we unite we form an unbreakable chain
It can last a lifetime wherever we go
To be a shining example to all that we know

Lon Cole was a combat medic in the Navy and later a nurse, read about his time in Vietnam here. He has authored three poetry books including his latest, Alive and Thankful. “I love reaching out to people. It’s why I volunteer so much, and it’s why I wrote my books–so I could reach out and lighten others’ burdens,” says Lon. “It brings me strength and new life, and I guess it is what our Lord does for us all. I just try to follow Him.”
