Diana’s Longest Summer: the ride begins

Nov. 2014This summer I will be bicycling across the country in order to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association.  This page is part of the Alzheimer’s Association “The Longest Day” fundraiser, but my event could more accurately be called “The Longest Summer.”

On the morning of June 19th I left Everett, WA, and I will arrive in Gloucester, MA on August 20th, having pedaled every mile of the way.  I will be riding with the Cycle America group and you can see my route and find out more information by clicking this link:  Cycle America page

I am doing this fundraising ride to honor my mother, Charlene Taylor, who is living with Alzheimer’s Disease.  My family and I have watched as, over the last 10-15 years, she has changed from an active, healthy, intelligent woman, to someone needing care for every aspect of her life.  Diana & Mother_1957

35 million people across the world are living with Alzheimer’s, including more than 5 million Americans. In the United States alone, more than 15 million caregivers generously dedicate themselves to those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. And these numbers will only continue to rise unless we take action.  Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer’s Association advance research and provide care and support to those facing the disease today.

I am paying for the cost of the ride myself, so 100% of the money you donate will go directly to the Alzheimer’s Association, which Charity Navigator has given their highest rating.  No amount is too small, and there are many ways you can donate:

You can make a flat donation in the amount of your choice, or you can make a donation based on:

The number of miles I will pedal (4,200),

The number of days I will be riding (55),

The number of states/provinces I will ride through (14),

The number of weeks I’ll be on the road (9), or

The number of countries I will be in (2).

Thank you!
