The Longest Day: Music for Mom

Sheri Grimes

Sheri Roberts Greimes is an award-winning singer songwriter, known for bringing her powerhouse voice to venues across the Pacific Northwest. As part of The Longest Day, she’s taking the stage for a very special occasion — her mother’s 80th birthday.

Her mother, Joni Latham, raised four children as a single mom. She also owned and operated a popular salon, Adam and Eve, in Marysville. “She’s gone through a lot in her life, but she was a strong woman and always very supportive of her children,” Sheri says.

Sheri credits her mother with being the driving force behind her singing career.

When Sheri was three years old, her mother bought a piano and would encourage Sheri to play while she did the household chores. As a teenager, her mother would help make arrangements for Sheri to perform at local events and venues, and also began entering her into talent shows, including one in Memphis.

Sheri eventually moved to Nashville to launch her career, playing at the Grand Ole Opry, touring around the country, even performing a series of shows in Las Vegas. Joni was by her side through it all.

JC 1“My mom was my biggest fan. It was exciting for her to be a part of it all. She liked to pick out the clothes I would wear and songs for me to sing. She was living her dream through me” Sheri laughs, “It also gave her an excuse to dress up!”

Unfortunately, Joni was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2010 and is now living in hospice care. Still, there is reason to celebrate. “Her 80th birthday is quite a milestone,” says Sheri. “I wanted to do something special for her, to celebrate who she is and how much she means to our family.”

Sheri will be hosting a benefit concert as part of The Longest Day to celebrate Joni’s 80th birthday and to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. She says,“There’s a cure out there and someday we’ll find it. Hopefully, it’s right around the corner.”

Join Sheri, her band, and other great Northwest musicians for this very special event!
